Rosh Hashanah 2019

Posted by Danny Williams  | 30 Sep 2019

Happy New Year!

Today is Jewish New Year, and although the festival is a chance to enjoy time spent with friends and family, it is also a time for reflection, and begins 10 days of repentance for sins committed in the previous year.

At the end of the 10 days is Yom Kippur (next Wednesday), which is the Day of Atonement. It is considered to be the holiest day in the Jewish calendar and is usually spent in prayer and fasting.

It is customary to eat certain foods during this period. For instance, an apple dipped in honey is to be enjoyed resembling continuity and a sweet new year.

Here’s a short video to check out

This sacred, traditional and holy period in the calendar promotes reflection, forgiveness and symbolises new beginnings. If you are waiting for the right kick to get back to exercise, eating cleaner foods, and even restore that relationship that needs some attention – now is the time. So give out a hug, eat an apple, and move forwards with a fresh start!

Yours in health,

SYO
